Mobility trend as an opportunity - not pressure to change

Trends such as digitalization and climate change are constantly increasing the pressure on car dealerships to take up new offers and successfully implement changing customer needs. However, many car dealership owners are deterred from adapting to the changes by the financial outlay and skepticism towards innovations. At aubex, however, we know that delaying action is detrimental to the dealership. Only those who act now will benefit from adapting to change at an early stage.

Trends that are driving the pressure to change for car dealerships

It is clear that megatrends such as digitalization, urbanization and climate change are having an impact on the automotive industry.

‍Communicationtechnologies developed and improved in the course of digitalization are constantly changing customer needs and requirements. Forecasts also make it clear that demand for new forms of mobility and services - including from third-party providers - is increasing as a result of urbanization and climate change.

‍Inorder to implement these and other requirements on the customer side, it is foreseeable that car dealerships will have to merge into retail groups and use new sales channels in the future. In addition, the increase in electromobility in the context of climate change and new technical developments in vehicles within digitalization will require new knowledge on the dealership side.

‍Manycar dealership owners fear the consequences of these trends, as their implementation will change the role away from the car dealership to a previously unknown "provider of mobility services".

‍Ataubex, however, we believe that all predicted changes should be seen as an opportunity for further training and new market positioning. An early adjustment to the new market conditions and customer requirements will ultimately help car dealerships to make a profit.

The car dealership of the future won't wait

If dealership owners act now, they can still make adjustments gradually and without existential fear. A gradual changeover also has the advantage that the acceptance of the changes by employees and customers is better understood and supported. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that, in view of the information required in relation to changes, digitalization will not demand too much new knowledge in one fell swoop.

Another benefit of acting quickly is that the adjustments made show dealership customers that their needs are being respected. The resulting loyalty to the dealership will in turn have a positive effect on the dealership's existence in an increasingly difficult market environment.

What car dealership owners can do

"Although trends such as digitalization come with a high pressure to change, car dealership owners must take the time to develop a strategy for a sustainable solution. Any changes must not lose sight of people," says aubex Managing Director Sven Fillinger.

Car dealerships need to get to know their customers better and turn every touchpoint into an experience. From the initial digital contact to a visit to the dealership, a seamless and coordinated customer experience should be created with its finger on the pulse.

In addition, changes should be initiated directly by car dealerships, independently of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). This also means establishing new business models and cooperations in order to maintain and improve the respective market position.
